EE Roadshow a Big Success

September 29, 2008

The EE Roadshow was a big success for us last Friday, starting with the event completely selling out and ending with a great party. Havana Theatre proved to be a good venue for the event, with plenty of tasty appetizers and drinks.

Kevin Addresses the Crowd

While the majority of attendees were from around Vancouver (there’s a lot more EE users here than we knew about!), we did have enthusiastic users come from as far away as Smithers (BC), Seattle, Portland, Ottawa, and New York State. There was a good mix of experience levels in the audience. Most were already users of ExpressionEngine, (some having started as far back as the days of PMachine Pro), while others had yet to do an installation of EE, or were beginners who had come to learn more about it and confirm how awesome a CMS it is. We were pleased to discover there are many different and interesting projects that EE is powering, and everyone came away having learned something - including the organizers.

A highlight of the day was a presentation by Rick Ellis and Derek Allard of EllisLab on the much anticipated preview of ExpressionEngine 2.0. Believe me when I say everyone in the room was very excited to be in on this session and can hardly wait to get their hands on the new system. A bonus for Roadshow attendees is that they will have special access to the developers preview as soon as it is available.

A big thank you to Kevin Shoesmith of Venn Communications for getting the ball rolling on this event, and for ensuring the involvement of Rick Ellis.

BMFA: Sock Summit 2009

September 19, 2008

sock summit dates As her Blue Moon Fiber Arts sock knitting empire continues to grow, Tina Newton has decided to throw her energies into The Greatest Sock Knitting Show on Earth! The event, Sock Summit 2009, will take place next August, but Tina wanted a web site in the works to begin generating buzz right away. The current version of the site is a first phase to allow interested teachers, exhibitors, sponsors, and attendees to sign up for updates and registration information as it comes available.

The relatively simple site is built in ExpressionEngine, which will allow us to integrate more content, from registration to a blog, as the event gets nearer. The design incorporates detail photos of knitted socks in a range of spring-like greens.

We’re excited about the site, and about going to the event!

EE Roadshow is Almost Here.

September 15, 2008

In just over ten days the EE Roadshow pulls into town at Havana Theatre and Gallery in Vancouver. As we mentioned previously, the EE Roadshow is a training, brainstorming and networking event to bring ExpressionEngine users and developers together in real life. The half-day session offers an overview to newcomers interested in learning more about the system, as well as tips for advanced developers. It’s an opportunity not to be missed to learn tips, techniques and development expertise from others who have been using the system for years, and to get to know people in the EE community. The cost is a mere $50 and includes tasty treats provided by our hosts at Havana Restaurant. At this point there are only about 15 tickets left for purchase, and we fully expect to sell out. You can purchase a ticket here.

Hop Studios Upcoming Appearances

September 9, 2008

September is shaping up to be a very busy month for the Hop Studios gang.

There are plenty of conferences and events, especially by the end of the month, where you’ll be able to find a Hopper or two (maybe even all five) in attendance. Coming up this week, Susie will be presenting at IZEAFest, a three-day blogging conference in Orlando, Florida. Her talk is about improving your content, and will feature fun, exciting, and innovative blogs doing creative things with content. She’s always looking for suggestions, so please leave a comment if you have any. (Susie will be sharing her presentation at a later date.)

The first ever EE Roadshow arrives on Friday, September 26th, and is your opportunity to learn more about ExpressionEngine for the low low cost of $50. It’s an all day training and networking event for users and developers, brought to you by the EE evangelists at Boxcar Marketing, Venn Communications and Hop Studios. Check out the schedule for more information or purchase your ticket at eventbite. If you miss Susie in Florida, you’ll have another chance to see her talk in front of people at EE Roadshow.

Hot on the heels of the EE Roadshow is BarCamp Vancouver on Saturday, September 27th. This year the event will be taking place at various locations around Granville Island, and feature sessions such as WordCamp and PhotoCamp. In keeping with the usual BarCamp way of working, there are lots of other sessions yet to be determined. This unconference is a very popular yearly event in Vancouver, as evidenced by all the event tickets claimed more than a month in advance. Luckily we booked our tickets early. wink

I hope we will see you here, there or everywhere!
