Become a better digital journalist and a dynamic newsroom leader through in-depth seminars at USC Annenberg School for Communication’s Knight Digital Media Center. Funded by the Knight Foundation, this program is a joint one with UC Berkeley. (It was formerly the Western Knight Center.)

Wow, what doesn’t Hop Studios do for the Knight Digital Media Center? It’s almost easier to make a list of what we aren’t involved in than what we are. As the webmasters for the USC side of the KDMC, Hop Studios assists with everything from developing online seminar content and live blogging, to building out the site’s backend publishing system, to designing the online application process, to creating the logo and stationery.

We designed the site, and help to keep its look and feel, as well as functionality, in line with the goals of the program as well as the requirements of the grant that allows KDMC to operate. This means really changing as the program changes, and being nimble on our programming feet.

The whole site is now run out of one content management system, allowing efficiencies that let us slice and dice the display of the seminar speakers and content, pulling pertinent information from one part of the site into another. The most recent work was on creating a Knight digital portal page that brings together the RSS feeds of several Knight-funded projects with digital news and training in their mandate.
