MovieMaker is a New York-based magazine that serves those who make movies: directors, writers, cinematographers, and the like. They came to us after running a home-grown Web site for several years.
Hop Studios flew to New York (no hardship there!) and reviewed their online assets and workflow. While their site was large and well-stocked with content, it was also Byzantine and somewhat out of date.
We migrated the site to a more stable and powerful Web host, and migrated all the data from the home-grown PHP-based article system into an ExpressionEngine-based content management system. This was all done without changing the public-facing design of the site.
Once the site was migrated successfully (which involved some interesting work with international character sets because of the frequent use of accented characters in their writing), we set about redesigning the site to add interactivity in the form of comments, an upgraded forum, polls and contests.
The site relaunched and is showing up now in Google News, as well as higher in the search engine results. Traffic has increased, and subscriptions are doing well, too.
