The Santa Monica Wellness Center is a health care business offering an integrative medicine approach to the health and well being of their clients. They came to Hop Studios badly in need of an overhaul to their website. It had last been updated in 2001, which meant everything was out of date - design, functionality, as well as the ability to reach clients effectively. Control of the site was also out of their hands, and all updates or changes to content had to be made through a web master, which was a frustrating arrangement for staff. The two most important requirements for the redesign were to come up with a design to highlight the caring nature of their practice, and to empower the staff of Santa Monica Wellness with the ability to maintain the website themselves.

A major stumbling block for the project was trying to transfer control from their old web provider. As can happen sometimes, the web provider wasn’t happy with the termination of the business relationship and made switching the domain and moving the site to a new provider less than simple. It was like navigating through a messy relationship breakup where one side just wants their stuff back. But we made it through and everyone was able to move on.

The design of the new site is bright, colourful, sophisticated and incorporates twitter and a blog for direct engagement of their clients. The site is built with ExpressionEngine which allows the control the staff so badly wanted to easily make changes and add content themselves. Current and new clients of the Santa Monica Wellness Center can now make inquiries through the site, as well as enjoy the excellent resources for health and well-being they make available on their website.
