The Times Community Newspapers are a series of local papers in the Southern California area that offer local, regional and national news to Glendale, Burbank, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Laguna Beach.

This newspaper Web site was completely redesigned by Hop Studios in 2005. TCN was looking for a site design that could be integrated with a lightweight technical production load, and extend across a number of papers. They also asked Hop Studios to design so that the site could be quickly and simply customized, when necessary, using only CSS.

In addition to advising the newspaper’s editorial staff on usability and online conventions, we created the HTML and CSS code that was implemented in the site’s publishing system. The site uses as much fast-loading and easy to modify CSS code as is feasible, given the requirement for backwards compatibility with older Web browsers. Hop Studios produced the code, graphics and style guide that was then integrated into the existing publishing and classifieds systems.
