Blake, Chris
Editorial Columnist
1991? - 1992?
Chris used to live on the same floor as Travis Smith, with a crazy roommate Dan, and he's from La Ca–ada. Chris comes clean: "I stumbled upon your Trojan site and thought I'd say hey. I do think I remember you more as a floormate than a fellow DT member. Mostly of you coming in at 4:00 a.m., proudly proclaiming you had been awake for five days straight. (You made it cool to look like Norman Mailer.) Saw you got married and are a proud homeowner. Congrats. My wife and I got married in November and are working on our first kid. No house yet, but at least they can't foreclose on our offspring. Didn't end up going the journalism route, though I stayed somewhat close as a PR guy."

Blake, Sally
Features Editor
1990? - 1992?
As they say in The Princess Bride: Ma-wage. Dave Hernandez reports that Sally Blake got married in April (1999 or 2000, it's not clear) to a very nice copywriter man from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. She's living in Temple City and is a teacher somewhere in the general area. She had a Christmas party that Arwen Adams was invited to, but couldn't attend because Arwen's a copy editor with all the crappy hours that entails.

Boo surprises. "I switched my entire career to some show on VH1 called Bands On The Run. I'm a transcriber. It's an OK job, a little monotonous, but I meet interesting people and I'm happy. It's the most expensive and largest regular series in MTV history or something like that. And I don't update my website, except for the CD collection part. Hope all is well with everyone." Boo was covering high school sports in Orange County for the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa & Newport Beach. He's got his whole CD collection listed online. Credit: Elisa Ung.

Editorial Cartoonist
1995 - 1997 Personal recollections
Laura is currently using her hard-earned degree in Vail, Colorado where she earns a living as a bank teller by day and cashier by night. "It's all about the mountain," she says, lovingly wiping down her snowboard. After graduating in 1998 with a BA in Production, she joined the masses of filmmakers in Los Angeles and scratched out a living as a freelance set dresser. But, despite some successes in the film field, a bad job experience made her think that Vail might be a little nicer, and so she's enjoying the snow.

Marc Brown
|
Unknown
1982? - 1984?
Marc Brown is the LA ABC Channel 7 news anchor. From the KABC page: "Marc Brown is our 4pm, 6pm and 11pm co-anchor for ABC7 "Eyewitness News". Through the length of a broadcasting career that began in 1984, he's won four Emmys, a Golden Mike, an Associated Press award and a Radio and Television News Directors Association award for excellence in TV News reporting. Marc was born in Los Angeles. He attended Narbonne High School and then went to the University of Southern California, where he majored in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. Marc worked nights in a supermarket to pay his way through school. Marc's first on-air job was in 1984 at KIEM-TV in Eureka, California. He went on to work as a reporter and anchor at KOLO-TV in Reno, Nevada, KNTV in San Jose, California and KFMB-TV in San Diego, California, before returning to Los Angeles in March of 1989 to begin work at ABC7 Eyewitness News. When he first joined ABC7, Marc worked nights again, specializing in live reporting for the 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 11pm newscasts and was later named weekend anchor. The Southland has been the setting for a number of important stories in recent years, and Marc has been on the scene for many of them. When brushfires ravaged Malibu, when flood waters threatened homes and lives in Ventura and Santa Barbara, when the city erupted in rioting, when the Northridge earthquake struck, when O.J. Simpson was first tried and acquitted, Marc Brown was on the scene, reporting live. In September of 1996, Marc was named the anchor of Eyewitness News at 6:00pm. In January of 1997, his duties were expanded to include anchoring the 4:00pm edition of Eyewitness News. In August of 2000, Marc's duties were expanded yet again to include Eyewitness News at 11pm."

Sarah is now back in England working for the International Money Marketing magazine. I think she's soon going to be working for the Financial Times over there. She was in South Africa for the summer semester for her Masters in international Journalism, a cool new international option at 'SC. Originally from Birmingham, England, came to USC because California has nicer weather than the U.K.

1991 - 1992 Personal recollections
Carol patiently waited for me to finally add this entry: "After spending four years doing stand-up comedy in L.A. and working various entertainment biz jobs (NBC was the high point; the "adult entertainment" distribution company was definitely the low point), I decided to leave L.A. in 1998 and venture forth to the parallel universe of Orange County where you can make a decent living and find a parking space. I now live in Tustin with my wonderful fiance Aaron, and I work for Nextel as a retail store manager. On the agenda for 2003: buy a house 'n' get hitched." Carol was a good friend of Travis Smith and played D&D -- no kidding. "In a chance meeting at BBKings (Universal Studios) in 1996, Carol mentioned she was learning improv," says Y-Vonn Teh.

Sez Sammy: "With the exception of occasionally co-writing Jun Falkenstein's adorable "Wallace and Spaz" comic strip, I was really more "DT-adjacent" than DT. I was editor of El Rodeo 1990. I spent lots of time decompressing in the DT City Office, many a stressed night in the production room with Ron, Sheri and Darlene, and pacing the halls on the fourth floor of the Student Union. Currently, I am a bi-coastal writer, sharing time between musical theatre in New York and TV in LA."

Did Frank Buckley work for the DT? Let's say he did -- Aaron Van Curen attests to this fact, saying: "He worked as a city writer in the mid '80s. I want to say about 1985. It all gets kind of fuzzy right around the time of the opening of Traditions." Frank's with CNN now. A quote from Frank Buckley on the Bay Area road trip during his DT tenure: "This is really good cheese." I don't know what it means, but you might. Elisa wrote in: "I saw Frank Buckley on CNN covering Hillary Rodham Clinton's victory on election night. Cool, huh?" Yep, cool. During 2003's Operation Iraqi Freedom, Buckley reported from aboard USS Constellation, offering viewers the latest reports -- his CNN bio said so.

Bultmeyer, Suzanne "Susan"
Unknown
1990 - 1992
Suzanne is currently trying her luck in San Francisco's Internet startup world. She's moonlighting as a filmmaker (who isn't in CA?), primarily working on shorts and documentaries. Her first short is being sent around to film festivals and she's hoping a documentary she wrote for will end up on PBS. After graduating in 1992, Suzanne spent a year in France before returning to New York, where she pushed highbrow shows like Pacific Blue and La Femme Nikita at USA Network and the Sci-Fi Channel. After the Big Apple, Suzanne fled to new-age-y San Francisco and started working as a freelancer in film and TV production working on some really bad independent films. Then the words "stock options" entered her vocabulary (you can only be in S.F. so long before that happens), but she refuses to give up her dreams of writing the Great American screenplay. Her favorite DT alumni moment was when she lived in S.F. and Eddie Siegel lived in Hong Kong and they met for dinner in Paris.
Additional detail: Bultmeyer was a development manager at BAVAC, a Bay area video coalition. She lived in Hoboken, NJ, while working for USA networks She has assisted USA with their coverage of the French and U.S. Tennis Opens for the past six years. Info from Greg Sandoval.

Bylin, Jim
Editor
1955? - 1959?
Bylin passed away on 1/12/01. He is survived by his wife Sally and two daughters, Mary & Jennifer. Sayeth Joe Jares: "...To flesh out his entry: He was editor of the DT (I was his managing editor) and an outstanding student. Went on to Columbia Graduate School of Slavic Studies. Worked for the Wall Street Journal out of San Francisco; his beat, or one of his beats, was the wine industry in California. He went off for some years to a farm in upstate New York (I believe he edited a weekly newspaper there) before winding up back in California, working for the newspaper in Bakersfield."
