D'Monte, Neil e-mail: yheadzygote-at-lycos.com
Neil (left) and Stan Winston, visual effects master.

Cartoonist (Shockwave), Illustrator    1992 - 1992   Personal recollections
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in December of 1995, Neil has gone on to work as a special effects conceptual artist on such films as Universal's "The Mummy" and the upcoming "Van Helsing", a comic book illustrator ("Dead Reckoning", Playboy's upcoming "Dark Justice"), and an actor in the films "Vampires Anonymous" and "Recoil". Sez Neil: "I graduated in the Fall of '95 and for a steady three years had no luck finding animation/ comic-book/ and /or special effects designing work. I had no money, lost a ton of weight, and did mediocre jobs for scraps (ie. telemarketing, QA and QC at Pitney Bowes, etc.) and then, through a friend, met a make-up artist from Deep Space Nine, who began giving me "assignments" like designing werewolf makeup for a job he wanted to get. After that, little by little, I met more people in the industry which led to the Mummy and Lucas Arts' gigs. I then started doing storyboards and when I began working on the indie flick "Vampires Anonymous", the director asked me if I wanted to audition for a small role in the film. I did and wound up getting it, which led to a SAG Card and a few other roles. At this time, I met a few more people and showed them the script I was putting together and (even though I have no cash as of yet) it got optioned at Dimension Films. So, that is pretty much everything, in a nutshell..."

Davis, Mike e-mail: mike.davis-at-latimes.com    Sports Editor    1973 - 1976
Last time Kevin McKenna checked, Mike Davis was a sportswriter for the San Bernardino Sun. But the last time Jim Carr checked, which was more recently, he was working for the L.A. Times Orange Country edition. But then Mike himself checked, and found that the O.C. sports dept. was reabsorbed into the L.A. Times mothership. He's married, and does a bit of traveling, apparently. (In a proof of small-world-ness, Arwen Adams' new housemate dog-sits for Davis occasionally.)

De Campos, Juliet e-mail: Juliet_DeCampos-at-med3000.com Web page: http://www.bhcpns.org/FindADoc/physiciansview.asp?Physician=71    Associate Sports Editor    1974 - 1978
"The 8-year-old shark bite victim was rushed from the beach by helicopter drained of blood and so precariously feeble that doctors couldn't even find a pulse. 'He was dead, essentially,' Dr. Juliet M. De Campos recalls. An hour later, the boy's right arm, packed in ice, arrived by ambulance after having been pulled from the gullet of the shark that mauled him. And De Campos, a self-labeled 'Valley girl' schooled in medicine at USC, began the painstaking work of reattaching it." So reads the lead of the Los Angeles Times story about the boy who was attacked by a shark, and the Daily Trojan alumni who reattached it. Juliet worked previously as a stringer for Associated Press, covering college basketball and beach volleyball, and as a team doctor for the U.S. national judo team and at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She has a son Kourage, 5, and daughter Diandra, 3, She also used to work at the Good Samaritan Hospital in downtown Los Angeles. Her husband, Keith Kundahl, a former financial planner, now runs an Internet fly-fishing business from home.

Thanks, Elisa Ung, for bringing Edward into the fold.

Quoting liberally again: "I left California in March (2000?) and headed back to Texas. I got a job working at the station where I first started my career in Victoria (Victoria is between San Antonio and Corpus Christi and it's a small-size market for TV). I'm working as an assignment editor/reporter for KAVU-TV. It's kind of homecoming in a sense because my wife is from Victoria. Many people still remember me from when I worked here about 8 years ago. We're helping prepare young journalists for the next step in their careers. I hope that I can make it back this fall for a football game! Fight On!" (Manny had been Santa Maria Bureau Chief for KSBY-TV (NBC-affiliate) since July of 2000. Previously, for KKFX-TV (Fox-affiliate) in Santa Barbara, Court TV-LA, KGUN-TV (ABC-affiliate) in Tucson, AZ and two other stations in Texas. He was a board member for the National Assoc. of Hispanic Journalists and represented Region 8, which is the West Coast. Married to Alma Cheramie in 1995 and has two children, Denisse and Manuel II. He worked 4 years as a TV reporter in Victoria and Waco, Texas and Tucson, AZ. At Court TV-LA, he helped find all of their trials aired on the West Coast. He was one of the DT throng who attended Unity '99.

Eric's an interesting study in identities. Probably the only engineering/philosophy major to grace the DT newsroom, he completed a stint with General Motors before returning to NorCal in '89 (he's originally from S.F.). A semi-techy type, he's been playing in the Product/Program Management arena in the Silicon Valley for the last dozen years with mixed results. A bit of a risk-taker at heart, he's started two companies, but has neither house nor Ferrari to show for it, only the questionable distinction of having been hired (and laid off) by IBM three times(!) Now married to a wonderful Stanford alum, he's wondering why Fox took "Family Guy" off the air.

Nick Divito has worked as a reporter for The Associated Press, taught English to eighth-graders in what The New York Post called the "sixth most dangerous middle school in New York," and spent a brief stint as a production assistant for the NBC sitcom, "Just Shoot Me!" Duffey, Barbara e-mail: barbaraduffey-at-yahoo.com    Staff Writer    1999? - 2000?
Barbara is currently a creative writing MFA student at the University of Houston. Barbara, a quick wit whose sophisticated and humorous political satire columns generated a great deal of controversy, particularly among those in the student body who did not "get them". Several irate letters to the Editor were generated by those who mistakenly took her columns as truth. Humor apparently isn't tolerated in Southern California High Schools.

Dutra, Mike e-mail: mikedutra-at-hotmail.com    Music Editor    1998 - 2000
Mike mails: "I am graduating from Georgetown Law in May'03. I'm then headed off to New York after graduation to work for an international law firm, White & Case. After graduating from USC in 2000, I went to work for Campus Circle magazine as its music editor. After doing that for awhile, I went to law school at Georgetown, where I realized that most lawyers are really boring people and I really miss the free CDs and concerts that come from writing about music. After three years of law school and various summer jobs working for the Navy and law firms, I'm leaving D.C. and am headed to New York."

Dvorak, Petula e-mail: PetulaD-at-aol.com,dvorakp-at-washpost.com    Editor    1988 - 1992
Between leaving USC and now, Petula was a fire eater in a Peruvian traveling circus, and later got a job buying fabric for Coco Channel. OK, that's not exactly the truth, but it would be really cool, wouldn't it? Truth is, Petula is working for the Washington Post, and was recently assigned to cover the Chandra Levy disappearance (Levy attended USC). Anec-date-ally, she covered crime for the Times-Picayune for four years, and went out to Albania and Bosnia in Spring 1999. She's married to Glen Justice, who a very nice man but always scared me at the DT because he was all serious and news-y. She was married in New Orleans to in April of 1997; somewhere between 200 and 300 people attended, including Jori Bieze (who was a bridesmaid), Alan Gibbons, Oscar Villalon, Arwen Adams, Bob Elston and Prof. Ed Guthman. They honeymooned in Egypt.
