O'Brien, Gregory "Greg"
Editorial Editor
1963? - 1967
Remember, if journalism isn't working out for you, you can always turn to the law. No, not B and E. I mean like Greg, who became a Superior Court judge in Los Angeles. He has monthly column in the Los Angeles Daily Journal called "Bench Press" and is judicial editor of the court newsletter (a 30-page journal published quarterly). He was also editor of the California Judges Assn. newsletter for four years. In 1984, Greg wrote a political satire (novelette) called "Lenin Lives," published by Stein and Day (New York) in both hard cover and paperback. Personal note: This editor met Greg's daughter Kelly on the Paris semester, thus proving it's not only a small world, but a brief one, too.

O'Donnell, Frank
Editor of SoCal Magazine
1972 - 1974 Personal recollections
Frank made an immediate impression on me: he's the first person I've added to this list (but definitely not the last) to have a child. Spooky. Anyway, after two years at SC, Frank transferred to UC Santa Cruz where he finished a B.A. in literature and writing. After a few jobs in journalism, including a turn as science writer at the Orange County Register, he arrived up at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena where he manages the Public Information Office. Along the way, he also received an M.B.A. at Claremont Graduate School, got married and had a terrific 2-year-old son (note: the child was not two years old at the time of his birth).

O'Gara, Matthew
Staff Writer
1995 - 1997
After finishing a six-month stint as a research consultant for the AFL-CIO and moonlighting at two junior colleges, Matt landed a position as a professor of politics in the University Honors program at George Washington University, where he's also been commissioned to teach a graduate seminar titled Terrorism and U.S. Foreign Policy in GW's prestigious Elliot School of International Affairs. Karmically, he was offered this course based on two things: A pre-9/11 article published on the cultural motivations for terrorism, as well as his USC dissertation (perhaps soon a book) on ethnic influences on U.S. foreign policy. While at the DT, took first place at the California Intercollegiate Press Association Awards in editorial writing. He received his doctorate at USC -- nice going, Matt.

Of interest to a slightly wider audience, he oversaw production of the New Line's production of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which explains why he's a little too busy to contact me personally. Mark is married and lives with his wife in West Los Angeles.

Osuna outputs: "I am currently the Senior Production Designer at the Bernard Hodes Group, a recruitment advertising agency head-quartered in NYC. I am still living in Brooklyn and still enjoying my view. I recently returned from an adventure out west for the Jenn Sansing/Paul Goldberg wedding. This trip was a reunion of sorts for my fellow partners in crime from the DT, Stacy Osbaum, Bryan Winchell and newly-wed Steve Yawitz who was joined by his lovely bride Heather. This trip was proof that neither time, distance or marriage will break apart our friendship. If anything, they have shown us how real and lasting our friendship is." Ota, Kevin
Assistant City Editor, Staff Writer
1987 - 1989
After a couple of years doing PR at a non-profit in L.A., Kevin rode the high-tech PR bubble to a Vice Presidency at Blanc & Otus Public Relations, where he launched a few highly successful start-ups, including TiVo, HotWire, Ofoto, and a few others that weren't so successful, but had lots of money to burn for a few months of media training and PR "counsel." About two years ago, he stole a couple clients and opened his own PR shop, which he now runs out of an office in his big house on two acres in southern Connecticut. Lots of details left out here, like one wife, three kids, etc., but that's gist of it.
