Quon, Glen
Staff Writer
1984 - 1984 Personal recollections
Glen gushes: "It's been a fascinating ride since graduation (BS Accounting, 1984). After graduation, I went to law school for two years, burned out (or was burned out) and dropped out. My first full-time job was in 1986 at Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation) for a year. I then joined the Los Angeles County Assessor as a deputy tax assessor for 11 years (1987-1998). During that time, I went to school at night to earn an MSBA (Master of Science in Bus. Adm.) in Finance from Cal State L.A. in 1997. Also during that time, I met my wife, Yan-Yee, and was married in 1994. (Our first date was one week after I sat for the GMAT). We have two children, Daniel and Esther, who are now 6.5 and 2, respectively. Seeing that a graduate degree meant very little in government work, I left the County Assessor (which is rare for those who've been there for over 10 years) to work at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a property tax consultant for 1.5 years and KPMG for 2.5 years (1998-2002). During that time, I passed the CPA exam, earned my CPA license, and became a CA certified general real estate appraiser. During my employment with KPMG, IHOP came into the picture, which brings you to where I am today. IHOP, thus far, has been a perfect fit for my education and experience. On the side, I am also a part-time finance instructor at Cal State L.A. and a deacon-in-training at my church." Glen is now a tax manager at IHOP Corp, and credits the article deadlines and meticulousness need to write well as playing a big role in his career development.
