Ung, Elisa
Editor, Managing Editor, Assignment Editor, Assistant City Editor, Lowly Staff Writer In Charge of Really Lame Stories Sometimes Involving Fertilizer
1995 - 1998 Personal recollections
Franke reports Elisa is working on the getting married thing (to a "nice boy who is an alum of the Daily Iowan"), and has entered the "we have set a date" phase. (September 2004, it is) Elisa is working at the Philadelphia Inquirer as a government reporter in New Jersey, where she says she would never want to pay taxes. The PI actually offered her a job after her junior year, then held it while she finished school. She spent summer 1999 in Europe with the ICS thing. Elisa also worked hard on a history section of the Daily Trojan web site. Elisa adds: "I'm learning about things like long coats and scarves and hand warmers, not to mention cheesesteaks and pretzels and Tastykakes. Haven't tried scrapple yet, tho." Update: Still hasn't tried scrapple (June 2000, 2004). Now has kitten, Alexi (Dec 2001).

Urata, John
Chief Photographer
1989? - 1991?
Last seen working as a parts purchaser for All Nippon Airways in 1991. Nothing is currently known of the whereabouts of the elusive "John Urata"; nothing, except for a single photograph that was on Matt White's web page. It's gone now.

Utley, Michael "Mutley" "Mike"
 | This is my new girlfriend, Edwina, and I hanging out near Big Rock Ranch in Topanga Canyon. Hey, as a single dad, you can't be too choosy -- and, anyhow, she's got great legs!

1989 - 1991 Personal recollections
Mike mouths: "Well, it's been about three years since I abandoned newspapers and defected to the corporate world. I now handle media relations and corporate communications for The TCW Group, an investment firm in downtown Los Angeles, where I am happy to report that my computer login is no longer "mutley." It's "utleym." Much better! TCW, aka Trust Company of the West, manages stock and bond portfolios totaling about $80 billion. In addition to my flak duties here, I play second base for the TCW softball team, which has lost every game so far this season. (Not all my fault!) Anyway, I keep in touch almost daily with fellow DT alum and Bloomberg reporter Vivien Chen now that we're both playing the financial news game. I pitch story ideas to her and she rejects them like a true grizzled veteran! Prior to joining TCW, I worked for several daily newspapers, including The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., The Palm Beach Post in Florida, and The Bond Buyer in L.A. and New York. I have a son, Jordan, who is 9 years old, and we live in Woodland Hills, Calif."
