1983? - 1987? Personal recollections
Lemme find my reading glasses. Ah, here: "After an internship at the Indianapolis New in 1987 and a two-year stint as a general assignment reporter for the Topeka (KS) Capital-Journal, I left journalism and started a computer networking business called Ilex in Fresno, California. Ten years later, at the beginning of this year, I sold Ilex to a national company and we are now the Fresno office of NetsWork, Inc." Go Aaron!

Veasey, Pam
Photographer
1983? - 1984?
I took this from the "Between Brothers" Web site: "Pam Veasey serves as an executive producer for Columbia TriStar Television's new comedy "BETWEEN BROTHERS." A graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in political science and journalism, Veasey set her eyes on a career as a television writer and got her first job as a receptionist for the hit comedy series "Gimme a Break." While juggling the phones in the busy production office she took a chance and submitted a spec script to a producer who recognized her talent and gave her an opportunity as a staff writer. Eventually she moved on to write, co-produce and ultimately executive produce the FOX hit series "In Living Color," for which she is a two-time Emmy nominee. Veasey has worked as a creative consultant on "Can't Hurry Love," starring Nancy McKeon, and "Nash Bridges," starring Don Johnson. She acted as a producer on "Matt Waters" with Montel Williams and served as a contributing writer on "Orleans" starring Larry Hagman. In addition to her extensive career in television, she also worked for the Dukakis/Bentsen Presidential Campaign, the Clinton/Gore 1992 Presidential Campaign and Nelson Mandela's visit to the United States."

Might be working at NBCSports.com. Also, Schroeder says, he was "at the Herald, a columnist for the L.A. Daily News, then was a writer for the Microsoft site, and was back at SC in the film school. He was making a movie of his own last time I spoke to him (he was my roommate when we graduated)." Note: His email used to work, but doesn't any more; unless you have a more recent one you'd like to share...

Villalon, Oscar
Assignment Editor
1989? - 1993?
Oscar announced that that he's getting married in May, 2004. Scott Gimple will officiate the ceremony at SF's City Hall, followed by a reception at the Claremont Resort. He met his fiancee, Mary Ladd (a UC Berkeley and California Culinary Academy alum) when she was interning at the Chronicle Food section. Their first date was a Metreon park picnic on her last day as an intern. Oscar worked for V as well as the DT. I'll also remember him always as half the dynamic duo that also included Glen Justice. Oscar worked for the Glendale News Press, rising quickly, and has since moved on to the San Francisco Chronicle and "having a lovely time," says Arwen Adams, who saw him around Thanksgiving, 1999. Petula Dvorak adds that he's the boss editor for the Chron's book section (since 2001), which may be interesting news to the "And what do you do" people out there. He lives in a great apartment in the Mission District with Mary.

1978 - 1982 Personal recollections
Now a software consultant for IBM. Zeke zaps me this: "It's been a long and winding road... After USC and the military, I wandered abit. I tried my hand at doing paintings on commission, didn't make much money so I went back to school at Sacramento State University and got an MIS (Management of Information Systems) degree. The State of California Department of Health Services hired me as a programmer while in school and I worked there for 9 years. At the height of the IT boom I decided to take a big leap and applied for a software consultant position with the IBM Software Lab out of Raleigh North Carolina. What a great job! I have been given the opportunity to travel and work with people in places like Seoul South Korea, Brussels Belgium, Istanbul Turkey, and Sao Paulo Brazil. Every day is a new challenge and I am surrounded by and work with some of the smartest people I have ever known. I have a family. My wife, Barbara, and three kids, Ashley(15), Dominic(9), and Natalie(9) (twins). We live in North Roseville, CA."

After Gary served his time at the DT (no time off for good behavior), he finished grad school (Columbia), then played a lobotomy victim in Adam Rifkin's imaginative film "The Dark Backward" -- only to be left on on the cutting room floor. Gary next toured with Dan Povenmire's band Keep Left as a roadie. He now lives (San Jose), works (engineering manager, Lockheed Martin) and plays (bike, ski, draw, coach soccer) in Silicon Valley. He also publishes greeting cards and such.
