Yakubik, Jeffrey "Jeff"
Photo Editor, Some Layout Stuff
1990 - 1992
Jeff responds to the challenge. I had written: "One in a long line of crazy but expert "Jeff" photographers. He's a buyer at Merisel now." He replied: "Great site. I happened to "google" my name on a dare and found it. You had the Merisel thing right and the multiple "jeff" thing. I rode the dot com wave and still am playing in the "tech" space. I work for Arrow Electronics. We sell Sun Microsystems gear. I am the Dir of Operations there. Married with a newborn and living in the South Bay."

Yamamoto, Julie
Assistant City Editor, Staff Writer
1990 - 1994
A career update -- Julie's director of marketing for Acoustiguide, the world's leading producer of audio tours for museums. She's still happily married to Arcy Douglass (USC School of Architecture 1995). Previously, Julie held the title of media relations manager at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, home to the second-largest collection in the world. She had worked for R&R Advertising, one of the largest shops in Las Vegas, doing PR for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Before (Viva!) Las Vegas, she toiled as the media coordinator at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in California (perhaps in San Marino). She married Arcy Douglass somewhere along the way. Before Huntington Library, she worked for the Associated Press, covering--among other things--the L.A. Criminal Courts. I think she was also a nightshift supervisor of some sort. And that's the scoop, Boop.

Steve Yawitz
|
Chief Copy Editor, Editorial Director, Resident Derelict, Staff Writer
1992 - 1996
Steve writes in. "My wife, Heather (a fellow elementary teacher), and I had an eventful 2002: We bought a house in July and had our first child, Ella Kathryn, on 19 August. As incredible as parenthood is, I must admit that I briefly deserted said family for a few days in late December so that I could go to the Phish NYE show at Madison Square Garden with fellow DT alum Richard Osuna." He was married in Las Vegas in June, 2001. Also in 2001, he received his Missouri certificate in elementary education and teaches in a classroom for students with behavioral and/or learning disorders."

Yoshihashi, Pauline
staff writer, Editorial Director
1980? - 1982?
Pauline Yoshihashi, last Casey Wian heard, was an investment bank for Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette in L.A. And might have had some connection to the Wall Street Journal, to be determined. Gary Karr reports she was in the Wall St. Journal's LA bureau for a while. Is she married to Steve Padilla? I must know! I also think she was a spokesperson for HomeGrocer for a while -- Google tells me things.

Yungling, Elizabeth "Betty"
Co-editor
1934? - 1938?
According to Michael West, her grandson: "Born 1916 in San Luis Obispo, a fourth-generation Californian. Attended USC 1934-1938 (?). She wrote poetry and light verse for the Trojan, and was co-editor with John Ford Golay. After graduation (BA in Journalism) she went to work for J Walter Thompson's Los Angeles office as copywriter and coincidentally the only female in the Creative Department. While still at JWT, she married a young Art Director, Barton West, with whom she was to have four children: Helen (b 1943), Michael (b 1944), Anne (b 1949) and Steven (b 1959). After WWII, they lived in Chicago. They were later divorced, and she raised the children alone for a few years until her second marriage, to Robert Gregory Durham. Mr Durham died in 1993, and Elizabeth now resides in a senior care center in Evanston, Illinois."
