Flickring the NewsWhy Flickr?
|
WHY FLICKR?Flickr wasn't the first social media site, nor is it the biggest. However, few would argue that the Flickr site has made an industry-wide impression on the development of design and functionality of online sharing sites. Its design aesthetic has been a significant influence on the generation of Web services since 2004. More importantly, Flickr has created and fostered an online community whose participants are among the most loyal and supportive of each other (recent spats aside). We see that Flickr isn't itself perfect, and we certainly acknowledge that it has been imperfectly adapted in this exercise for a second life as an online news site. However, we feel that there's much to be learned, and frankly, improved, in traditional media sites, and you could do worse than to copy one of the most successful sites to appear in recent years. So while we do love any site with so little fear of white space, we chose Flickr as a starting point not because of that, but because of the influence that its design seems to have had on the strength of its community. |
