So, I'm sitting on my couch one day, watching Law and Order (of course), and I'm right beside the big window in the living room with the great view of the park, the bridge, and the ant hill-like apartments nearby.
And I can't help but notice that (key phrase: CAN'T HELP BUT) a nearby apartment is filled with light, like those bright lights from a studio photo shoot.
This isn't the first time that I've seen bright lights from there. There's obviously a photographer who uses that as his workspace, and there's often men and women in various outfits, taking pictures against sundry backdrops.
What's different about this occasion, is the sex going on.
It's not for the camera, it's just that, this guy and this woman have decided to do a little kanoodling after the photo shoot, and what with all the lights, it's hard not to see what's going on. Especially when I'm, you know, gawking.
My view's a little obstructed, so it ends up being more Fox and less HBO, but still it's fascinating to have such an activity going on outside your window. And here's the thing: I bet it happens again.
So the question I have for you is this: at what stage does my casual observation get creepy. Where's the line?
a) You shouldn't watch at all
b) Once is normal, twice you're a perv
c) You should watch if you happen to spot it going on while you're watching prime time. But don't stay up past your bed time.
d) You should be sure to look out the window twice a night, you know, just in case
e) You should buy binoculars and do a little bird watching.
f) Rent a Web server, stream it live, make a fortune
g) Who are you kidding, Trav, this sounds like the lamest Forum letter ever.
Obviously, there's a stage at which watching your neighbours play Two-Person Naked Twister becomes wrong, but I'm curious to hear what you think it is. Especially given that I'm clearly not the only person in downtown Vancouver who can see these lovebirds.
And in the mean time, I'm selling dinner-and-a-movie invites at Casa Smith for $20 an evening, no refunds.

You are a fiend...and why didn't you call to get more people over, huh?
Yeah, and where's the Flickr "neighbours" set?
Don't forget a guy in Vancouver recently lost a case when he was caught, and photographed, doing the same thing.
Doing "the same thing?" Like, two nights in a row? Or do you mean the watcher was arrested?
From your description, it sounds like they maybe want to be watched. so perhaps you are just obliging... nothing wrong with being neighbourly.
