Update: Variety won the gold (top) award for "Best Overall Web Publication" and the silver for "Best Original Web Database" announced June 19, 2003 in this PDF.
On Friday, Variety.com was honored twice, for "Best Overall Web Publication" and "Best Original Web Database" (for our box office charts) , in the 25th annual awards competition of the American Society of Business Publication Editors. There are three levels to the award -- bronze, silver and gold -- and the final ranking will be announced next month.
Last year's top web publication winner was PCWorld.com. This year's competition had more than 2250 entries in an unspecified number of categories. See the www.ASBPE.org site for additional details.
I was quite surprised we did so well in this competition. This marks the fourth time Variety.com has won a significant award the past year.
