Photo Friday: Faces
My entry for Photo Friday: Faces. It's a puppet display in the kids' mall on Granville Island, Vancouver, B.C.

I went on a walk there last week with Clint and Rob. We didn't buy anything, though we did spend a lot of time looking at Lego.

Photo Friday: Crowded
My entry for Photo Friday: Crowded. It's a performer on the boardwalk at Venice Beach, California.

The fellow in yellow at the center was showing people the differences in the way Caucasians, African Americans, Latinos and Asians dance. It was pretty funny.

Photo Friday: Signs
My entry for Photo Friday: Signs. It's part of a a sign that lists the many ways you can die if you hike off the trail in a park near Vancouver.
There have been many deaths over the years as people try to swim in the appealing water near and above the falls.
The photo itself is posted on Flickr, and may not be available for a few hours on Sunday.

Photo Friday: Silhouette
My entry for Photo Friday: Silhouette. It's an uninvited winter guest at a cabin I was in recently.

Photo Friday: Patterns
My entry for Photo Friday: Patterns. It's the people who passed in the street as I watched from a cafe.

I was absolutely thrilled by this week's Photo Friday theme. I have an enormous collection of photos in a folder caled "Patterns" and I always am taking more interesting photos of interesting textures and series.
But I ran into a wonderful problem -- I couldn't pick just one. As well, I figured that any one pattern I could pick would be duplicated or outdone by the other superb photographers. Finally, I decided that the only way to make sure I had a unique pattern, was to create one myself.
This is also the biggest photo (pixelwise) that I've submitted. Any smaller, and it just didn't work. In fact, I have a 3000x3000 version that's even better. And the original photos are about 2000 wide, so I could have made a 144 megapixel image. But I didn't.

Photo Friday: Still Life
My entry for Photo Friday: Still Life. It's chopsticks and water glasses at our local sushi restaurant.

Luckily, the closest sushi place to our apartment is also very tasty with good service.

Photo Friday: Furry
My entry for Photo Friday: Furry. It's a friendly, furry green rock on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

It was so incredibly hot and bright that day, but the rocks were spectacular, and the waves kept them wet and brilliant.

Photo Friday: Blossom
My entry for Photo Friday: Blossom. It's a blooming tree in Central Park, New York, in the spring on a rainy day.

I got extremely wet that trip when I couldn't get a cab and so tried to take a "shortcut" across the park. That park is huge, and rain comes down much harder there than what I was used to in L.A.

Photo Friday: Cool
My entry for Photo Friday: Cool. It's the pool on our balcony in the Garza Blanca Villas Altas in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

I was on vacation with my wife and friends. It was summer. The air was hot and still, but the pool was perfectly cool; it felt as refreshing as a crisp, fresh salad.

Photo Friday: Fashion
My entry for Photo Friday: Fashion. It's my sunglasses resting on my tan pants.

It was a wonderful day to be watching the Dodgers. I wish I'd brought sunscreen; the tiny bottle for sale at the stadium cost $6.

Photo Friday: Natural
My entry for Photo Friday: Natural. My friends Mike and Julie are the most natural people I know.

Here they are chilling at the wedding of my pal Martin to his best girl Tracy on an island off the coast of Vancouver. It was a warm summer afternoon.
The whole wedding album -- no, it's not all boring -- is here.

Photo Friday: Atmosphere
My entry for Photo Friday: Atmosphere. It's a fish at the Long Beach Aquarium. He seems quite at home in his atmosphere.

Fish faces don't have much range of expression, but different types of fish have faces that seem "frozen" in states that resemble various human emotions. This one appeared to me to be a combination of curious and sleepy.
This is a huge tank, and far up above his watery home, you can see the atmosphere that you and I can breathe. It's an interesting reminder that different things thrive in different places.

My entry for Photo Friday: Woman. It's a woman watching a baseball game.

I don't know her name.

Photo Friday: Best of 2003
My entry for Photo Friday: Best of 2003. It's the Eiffel Tower.

I went out one night alone while I was in Paris this May. The weather was very hot, and the air was stuffy but clear. I spent at least fifteen minutes lining up this digital shot and getting it just perfectly timed for when the beacon was pointing properly. When I finished, I turned around and realized that my camera bag had been stolen! -- thank goodness I didn't have rolls of used film in my bag! The most difficult thing in the bag to replace was a library book I needed to return. I think the photo is worth it, though.

Photo Friday: Desire
My entry for Photo Friday: Desire. It's a pile of candy.

It's also a piece of art called "Untitled (Portrait of Ross)" in the Chicago Institute of Art. It weighs 175 lbs., the healthy weight of Ross, the boyfriend of artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Ross died of AIDS in 1992, emaciated. (Gonzalez-Torres died in 1996 of AIDS as well.) Visitors can take a piece and the exhibit is regularly replenished. Mine was lemony.
Desires: The audience for the artist, the artist for understanding, Felix for Ross, and me for candy.
Extra link: This artist stole 8,000 candies one by one, numbered them, and made her own copy of the art; she shipped it to Durban. Did she violate copyright?
