Scrolling Horizontally with Firefox

As far as I know, this is the world’s only horizontal scrolling blog.  Because of that, you may be saying to yourself, “Hey, Trav, what’s up with the horizontal scrolling blog?” Just hold down the SHIFT button and use the scroll wheel.  You’ll zip left and right with the easy of a sparrow through a barn.

Invite Us for Dinner

Lasagna Dinner for Six

I made a great batch of lasagna today—fed Susie’s parents, her cousin Ginger and Ginger’s fiance Doug.  I made an extra pan, and it could be yours if…

Day Trip to Steveston

On Saturday, four adults and an itty bitty baby took a journey to Steveston, an ocean-side suburb of Richmond.

I Spend My Time Reading

Instead of writing, I spent tonight reading blogs, articles, random web dust.  It’s too bad, because I have so much I want to say these days.

Tonight, though, I seem to be the first online to tell of the blogger picnic, and so I present this story, with photos, of the meetup.

Meat and Meetings

Susie and I had a lovely dinner with Zak and Mandy tonight.  Memphis Blues is truly where many animals give their last and best.  Travis + smoked meat = happy*happy!

Scout Camp 2005: The Needle Peak Ascent

Martin was responsible for the whole thing.  Scout Camp 2005—an annual affair where many of the old gang who were once a young gang of adventurous boy scouts head out to hike, fart and reminisce.

Refinding My Voice

So, if you read the most recent entries on this blog, you’ll stumble across Something Awful, something that I think is truly shameful, and almost unforgivable.  They’re boring. I mean, come on: “My Mac has been running for 9 days?”

Safari FOUC (Flash of Unstyled Content)

If you’re looking at this page in Safari, chances are you saw, while the page was laoding, a poorly formated page with black text before it suddenly fell into place.  That’s called the CSS Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC) and I can’t find any way to stop it.

Big Day Out

Today at 5 p.m. was the first time I’ve left my building since Wednesday.  I did go down to the lobby on Friday to get the mail—Susie did it for us on Thursday.

Overheard

“An unexamined life is not worth living.”

...who said it?

“BBFF (Best Bacon Friends Forever)”

...who said it?

“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”

...who said it?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”

...who said it?

“Ever have something in your teeth that you cannot stop tonguing?”

...who said it?
