What Should I Do with 500 CDs?

In amongst the shipment of things that came up from Los Angeles, is our entire CD collection.  There’s about 500 CDs in it. We don’t need CDs any more.  At this point, I’m considering what to do with the whole collection.  I’ve come up with the following five possibilities:

A Photo Walk Through Downtown L.A.

I took a walk through downtown Los Angeles earlier this month.

I’ve just posted 121 pictures from the walk.

Happy Friday, Basecamp is Down!

Hop Studios uses Basecamp to keep track of all our projects. Basecamp is telling me to turn off the computer and go outside in the sun.  Happy Friday to you, too, Basecamp!

I’m Back

I’m back in Vancouver. I’m told there were beautiful clear skies here for the past 21 days.  Today, it rained.

SXSW: Day 2.5

Burning eyes from condensed sweat from my forehead mixed with various smokes.  Shoes bottoms that smell slightly of TexMex and Shiner Bock vomit.  131 digital photos to upload, label and keyword on Flickr.  A stack of business cards in my breast pocket thick enough to stop a .22. Yes, it’s Day 2.5 of SXSW Interactive!

SXSW and Austin, in Front of Me

I have arrived in Austin for South by Southwest, Interactive portion.  Susie’s speaking here tomorrow.  Be there!  (Meanwhile, I’m also very excited about eating TexMex.)

L.A., Behind Me

I’ve just finished a fantastic, utterly fantastic trip to Los Angeles.  I was totally reminded of why so many people are so completely fooled by that city and think it’s a city paved with jewels, until they realize it’s just the reflection of broken headlamps in the street. Oops, got maudlin.  I meant to remain upbeat.  I met with so many people, so many old friends, went to some great favorite places and some new ones as well.

Travis, P.I.

I told a woman today at lunch that if I had to switch careers, I’d probably considering working as a private detective. I was mostly joking, but there’s something about the idea of that job that is fascinating to me, like a shiny reflection in a store window that catches your eye.

Adventures in Banff

While Susie was speaking at a seminar at the Banff Center, I got to be a Banff tourist.  Normally, I would have joined in, but Susie’s group was the Canadian Women in Communication, and I’m neither (b) nor (c)—though I did still occasionally come sit at their table for dinner.

Instead, I wandered around Banff, alone and with my friend Stone.

Overheard

“BBFF (Best Bacon Friends Forever)”

...who said it?

“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”

...who said it?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”

...who said it?

“Ever have something in your teeth that you cannot stop tonguing?”

...who said it?

“ . . . the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan’s advantage.”

...who said it?
