Birthday Dinner at Le Crocodile

Last night, Susie and I went out to Le Crocodile for her birthday dinner, and I wrote this email to a friend.

No Toothpaste? No Problem

I booked a flight by telephone recently and before I could make my reservation, there was a recording on the phone of how this fluid and that gel and the other balm would not be allowed on airplanes.  Toothpaste was mentioned by name, and it reminded me I’ve been meaning to blog about toothpaste.

Sabotage, Stupidity or Just Bad Luck?

For about two years, my car’s check engine light has been on.  It’s been driving fine, but the check engine light has been trying to tell me that my timing computer has gone HAL 9000.
I took it to Aamco, a national transmission repair chain with several convenient locations in the Vancouver area.  They took a look at the check engine light.  Things didn’t go well.

Dinner at Satima

Susie and I headed out to the li-berry last night to get some books on hold, and on the way back we stopped for dinner at a lovely new Vancouver place called Satima. We’d been interested in the restaurant for its high tea, but we hadn’t made time to go to it, so we though, hey, let’s give it a go.

A Labour Day Weekend

A 6” Subway sandwich was eaten with gusto

Letters were mailed (though they wouldn’t be picked up until Tuesday)

Air was put in under-inflated bike tires…

Overheard

“An unexamined life is not worth living.”

...who said it?

“BBFF (Best Bacon Friends Forever)”

...who said it?

“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”

...who said it?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”

...who said it?

“Ever have something in your teeth that you cannot stop tonguing?”

...who said it?
