Travis Smith: my resume, bio and photos back to the main blog page

After busying ourselves with several projects, I’ve been getting back into Flickr and friends.

There must be a name for that odd feeling of guilt and hapiness you get when you see an old friend that you haven’t seen in far too long, and you’re really happy to be hanging out with him, but you also feel bad that you’ve got no damn good reason for NOT having seen him.  Today, I hung out with Justin and Sue and got that feeling double.

I also went to not one but TWO International Writers Festival events—one was a talk with two graphic illustrators (Chester Brown did a comic book biographic novel of Louis Riel and Barbara Reid does children’s books), and another was four crime novelists cracking wise.  Susie arranged them both; she’s awesome.

I also went on a VanDigicam photo walk today.  It was downtown.  I wish we’d gone somewhere where the leaves were turning and lovely.  Maybe I’ll do that for myself on Sunday, ‘cause tomorrow’s super busy, too.

Overheard

“BBFF (Best Bacon Friends Forever)”

...who said it?

“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”

...who said it?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”

...who said it?

“Ever have something in your teeth that you cannot stop tonguing?”

...who said it?

“ . . . the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan’s advantage.”
