My friend Stone is in town again. He’s staying with us. Damn those cheap airfares!
Friday night we gathered up the usual posse and went to TCLion’s pub downtown. The food there has gotten worse, though the beer is as good as ever. Between five of us, we drank 3 pitchers plus one extra beer. Did I mention the pitchers were 4 LITERS EACH? That’s about 2.5 liters of beer per person. Woah. Susie had diet coke, and deserves a medal for putting up with us.
Today, I conned, I mean, convinced, Stone to help me buy and put up some Christmas lights outside the house. Boris came over and we played Heroscape, a fabulous board game with attacking armies and dragons and samurais and elves. It’s superbly genre-less
We also played whth my camera’s macro lens (pictures to follow) and had sushi twice.
But the big thing was the Banff Mountain Film Festival, which was in town this weekend. Susie stayed home because of headache, but I really enjoyed it. The best film was probably the ice climbers who went ice climbing on ice bergs. They were, how you say, INSANE?
“The superior man contains the means in his own person. He bides his time and then acts. Why then should not everything go well? He acts and is free. Therefore all he has to do is to go forth, and he takes his quarry. This is how a man fares who acts after he has ready the means.”
“kindergarchy n. Rule or domination by children; the belief that children’s needs and preferences take precedence over those of their parents or other adults.”
“As in 2007, the average U.S. worker has 14 vacation days this year. Just across the Canadian border, our counterparts get an average of 17 vacation days annually. But if you want a real “vacation envy” complex, consider the vacation banks of European workers. France tops the list with an average of 37 days, followed by Italy (33 days), Spain (31), the Netherlands and Austria (28), Germany (27) and Great Britain (26). “
