The New Top Dog

You won’t believe who walked up and sat down at the computer next to me to check his email.  My cousin Craig.

This is hard to believe why exactly? Because I live in Pasadena, he lives in Calgary, we are now in Vancouver and had no way to get in touch with each other (and Craig didn’t even know I was in this town), and I haven’t seen him for about 4 years before today.

Needless to say, I’ll be hanging with him quite a bit before he has to return to Calgary.

Today I also drove Martin and Tracy to a church parking lot from which the y embarked on a hiking trip—the couple they’re going with wanted to meet at a mid-way point between the two houses.

Most of my own camping trips have started in church parking lots.  That’s where the bus my Scout troop owned would be parked, slowly filling with hyper, clean, inexperienced young campers who would return Sunday evening tired, dirty, and sometimes, just sometimes, having learned a little something.  And having had some good clean fun. smile

The ride back across the bridge took 45 minutes.  Traffic in L.A. is worse, but traffic here is slower.  It took me 25 minutes to go 2 miles.  That’s less than a mile an hour; I can’t remember a freeway that was ever less than that, unless there was a car chase ahead.

Overheard

“The summer weather is expected to last well into next week.”

...who said it?

“Watch your step as you exit the train, and if you’re late, just remember that life is a lot like being on this train: we may not be there yet, but we’re getting there.”

...who said it?

“There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Please use in that order.”

...who said it?

“Description: MySQL server has gone away”

...who said it?

“According to Golf Digest, from 1996 to 2007, Woods made $769,440,709. Golf Digest predicts that, by 2010, Woods will become the world’s first athlete to pass one billion dollars in earnings.”
