Jason Manikel came to town last weekend.  He was in town early for his father’s 60th birthday, and his mom and dad invited Susie and I to have dinner with them.  We gladly agreed.

We went out to dinner at the William Tell restaurant.  It’s a swiss style restaurant on the Beatty side of Yaletown.  Quite good, moderately expensive, very very traditional.

It’s the only place I can remember going where the food was brought with silver lids, and then on the count on “un, deux, trois” all five lids were removed at once.  Quite the production.

The food underneath was worth the fuss: I had Quebec veal with spätzli, and Randy had the rack of lamb; amazing.  Susie’s was the best, though I don’t remember what exactly it was.  Some sort of pork with a reduction, yum.  Hard to believe, but Jason’s delicious New York-cut steak was the least memorable, and it was pretty darn good.

The best part, though, was the desserts.  Spectacular, amazing creme brulés, and Susie had a meringue with about 1 cubic yard of of whipped cream on it and chocolate sauce that came in a gravy boat.  So wonderful.
