James Sherrett did a great presentation at this year’s Northern Voice, which led to my decision today to remove the ads from my personal blog.
I think that you can’t be a “little bit” commercial. You can be commercial to some extend (more or less), or non-commercial. And if you’re non-commercial, you shouldn’t be adding Google Ads to it. Be pure. It’ll feel better.
I learned a lot from implementing Google’s AdSense on this site, and I have taken that knowledge and used it on clients’ sites, and I now have a lot of other places I can use to learn more, and so I’m happy to be reverting this blog to its original condition.
“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”
