Sunday Morning at UBC

So, I believed Steve Jobs when he said the video iPod was dumb, and that the world wasn’t ready for it.

Today, Apple announced the new iPod, a video iPod.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one fooled, but many smarter people than me did figure it out. Good for them.

What I haven’t seen mentioned much, is that along with “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives,” there’s also a collection of Pixar short films available for download.  That’s fairly cool—now I have them in VHS, DVD and download.

I still haven’t upgraded to QuickTime 7, because I don’t want to lose the benefits of my QuickTime Pro 6.0 license, which lets me watch video at full screen.  I don’t see why I should have to pay the “Apple Tax” every year for a piece of software that should be, frankly, part of the OS.  I mean, they offer a Web browser, mail program, address book and more for free, but they charge for QuickTime? That’s awfully silly.

Incidently, I’m very sick today, so if this sounds like a fevered rant, well, you might be onto something.

Overheard

“The summer weather is expected to last well into next week.”

...who said it?

“Watch your step as you exit the train, and if you’re late, just remember that life is a lot like being on this train: we may not be there yet, but we’re getting there.”

...who said it?

“There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Please use in that order.”

...who said it?

“Description: MySQL server has gone away”

...who said it?

“According to Golf Digest, from 1996 to 2007, Woods made $769,440,709. Golf Digest predicts that, by 2010, Woods will become the world’s first athlete to pass one billion dollars in earnings.”

...who said it?

Absolutely agree with your rant about Quicktime Pro. Especially when you can fairly easily get free (but less convenient to use) programs that do the same thing.

So you're the first person I've seen who has actually downloaded a video, not just opined about it. I'm assuming you don't have a video iPod, but you can play the 320x240 video on the monitor (that word sounds strangely clunky these days). I was curious if you can watch it via the TV-out connector from the iPod like you can do with picture viewing on the iPod photo.
