Travis Smith: my resume, bio and photos back to the main blog page

Apologies for not having written.  Having one’s computer stuck in a box in Hungarian customs gives one a good excuse, though.

As you may know already, I am now working in Budapest for a web startup company called Pressflex (http://www.pressflex.com/)

We make online web tools for publishers.  My title is Head of Client Relations, and that currently also means keeping track of all the programming tasks, and helping to organize the development of new versions.  We’ve got clients in the U.S., France and Hungary, and are expanding quickly.

I’ll be spending my time evenly divided between Budapest (a few hours east of Vienna, Austria), and Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Susie is now working for the University of Southern California as Research Director at the Annenberg School for Communications.  She’s teaching a class and working on some very interesting projects.

In case you’re wondering, yes, we’re still married, and no, we’re not crazy.  These are two really special opportunities and we figured it’d be nice to keep one foot in Europe and one in the States for a while. Who wants to spend all winter in Budapest or all summer in CA?

By evenly divided, it’ll be a month here, a month there for the next few years. At least, that’s today’s plan.

Susie left for L.A. in early August from Paris, and I arrived in Budapest in late August.  I’ll be back in L.A. in November, perhaps in time for the Nov. 6 Homecoming game, which is appropriate in this case.

I’m looking for leads on:
1) investors
2) employees
If you’ve got money or want a great job, drop me a line!

So, if I’m here in Budapest and you’re all the way over there, how do you get in touch with me?

(Basically, city goes before the street, and I’m on the fourth floor, apt. #8.  Utca is street. Last name goes first, often. Luckily, there’s no accents in this particular name.)

Last but not definitely not least: If you are on ICQ or AIM or some such, please let me know your number.  I’m 5670207 on ICQ.  Talking over the net is much more fun than paying $1.00/minute or more. (ICQ is software that lets you know when your friends are online and chat with them.  It’s at http://www.icq.com/, FREE!)

OK, enough about me. Susie is at:

If you’re interested in hearing more about my experiences in Budapest, let me know and I’ll add you to my journal list. Just reply and say “Yes!” I’ll get the idea.

If you know, or think you know, someone in Budapest, I’d like to expand the circle of people I know here. Drop me a line.

Overheard

“Even on the most exalted throne in the world we are only sitting on our own bottom.”

...who said it?

“Everyday, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”

...who said it?

“A man should ever be ready booted to take his journey.”

...who said it?

“From Obedience and submission comes all our virtues, and all sin is comes from self-opinion.”

...who said it?

“Man is the only animal whose existence is a problem that he has to solve.”
