Susie has a number of old cassette tapes in the door pocket of our car; she listens to them to decide if she should re-download the music from iTunes.  It’s good stuff, like Big Pig - Bonk, and Erasure, and Fine Young Cannibals.

So tell me, without cassette tape boxes, what are the kids today using when they need to scrape the snow off their windshields in a pinch?

Sitting in my car, waiting for it to warm up in this latest cold spell and snow storm to hit Vancouver, I found myself reminded of the cold evenings spent in high school.  “Parking” in a car in winter was so much better than in summer: the car wouldn’t get too stuffy, the cold would make the girl more prone to snuggle, and the windows would fog up instantly for some portable privacy.

On the down side, if it got too cold and you had to run the car, the odor of exhaust sometimes put a damper on the evening, and when it was time to drive home you often had to steer looking through a little patch of de-iced windshield through the steering wheel.

Susie went to school in Hawaii, she’ll never understand the joy of the first childhood kiss in the coat hanging area. Not that I got to do that, but I understand that the cool kids did.

Anyway, it’s cold out and that’s all I have to say.

Overheard

“I swore with my hand on the Bible to uphold the Constitution. I didn’t swear with my hand on the Constitution to uphold the Bible.”

...who said it?

“Buy anything you want at the grocery store; cooking is always cheaper than eating out.”

...who said it?

“There are two things in this world that take no skill: 1. Spending other people’s money and 2. Dismissing an idea.”

...who said it?

“Violence is a choice a man makes and he alone is responsible for it.”

...who said it?

“Oh boy! Another great opportunity for personal growth!”

...who said it?
