I Spend My Time Reading

Susie and I had a lovely dinner with Zak and Mandy tonight.  Memphis Blues is truly where many animals give their last and best.

It was Susie’s first day off the Atkins Diet in many months, and she seemed to enjoy the corn bread more than the many smoked meatsin the “Memphis Feast”—no surprise, but definitely a topsy turvy way of looking at things from my point of view.

I would have taken pictures, but I didn’t want to get grease and saliva all over the camera, even if it was my own.  Dinner was much much fun, and afterwards we went to hang out chez M&Z, which was excellent despite a minor dispute at the liquor store about what variety of port to purchase. (Don’t yuppies argue about the darndest things?)

The scene across the street from our apartment is getting better—more of it’s knocked down than standing now.  But even once the building is gone, then they dig a pit, then they pour concrete, then they ... so we’re still planning to move soon.

We’re so extremely close to having our own car back finally that I hesitate to jinx the process by talking about it, but let me tell you at least this: We got it insured for one day only, drove it down to the border and back again, and now only have to wait for:
a) a letter from the federal government
b) a tune-up from the dealer, along with a note promising that it’s not under any recall notice
c) a final visit to get it registered and insured.

There’s a hope, a slim hope, that the letter will come Monday and we can get this all done in time for Susie’s parents visit next week.  Fingers crossed!
