What a feeling.

I met my friend Mike the other evening for coffee, then we were going to head to a movie.  We were on the wrong side of downtown, and he’d just bought a new helmet for his motorbike.

“So, you wanna ride?”

“Hell yeah!”

Mike’s had his bike for many years, but this is the first time he’s ever had a passenger.  I think we were both a little nervous.  OK, I think he was slightly hesitant, and I was damn near freaked.

What’s it like?  It’s like lying on the hood of a car, pointed forward, your head slightly in front of the grill, looking down the street as individual pebbles and bumps whiz by.  It’s like taking off down a runway, with your seat strapped on to the outside of the plane instead of the inside.  It’s like sitting in a vibrating massage chair that just happens to be traveling at 50 km per hour.

Oh yes, it’s a little scary, too.

We made it to Tinseltown in one piece, and saw “Millions.” The film was excellent, but I liked the motorcycle ride better.  Thanks, Mike!

Overheard

“BBFF (Best Bacon Friends Forever)”

...who said it?

“I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. This should lead to radically improved intelligence and creativity. The only cost: turning your back on every convention of social life.”

...who said it?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”

...who said it?

“Ever have something in your teeth that you cannot stop tonguing?”

...who said it?

“ . . . the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan’s advantage.”

...who said it?
