Quick Domain Poll Question

Prepare to be shocked.  I went to the fireworks tonight, with Dave and Clint and Rob, and I didn’t take A SINGLE PICTURE.

I know.  I KNOW!  Well, let me disclose fully.  I took a few pictures before the show of the guys, just messing around with my camera phone (the Nokia 6682 that’s causing so much Web debate, and about which I really should write a blog post sometime).  We were eating Memphis Blues BBQ and killing time.

And I did TRY to take just one photo during the show, just for the heck of it, but I hit the wrong button and it didn’t materialize. Damn phone!

I have to say, being photo free made for a different experience.  The camping trip I was just on, we had four cameras between six people, and took 708 photos in 3 days.  And 7 video clips.  For some of the time, creating this media fiesta was part of the fun.  But at other times, the constant posing and pausing and separating and such pulled us out of the moment.

I appreciated the fireworks much more vividly, knowing that I was only going to see each explosion once.  That if I missed anything, it was gone for good, and there wouldn’t be any other image I could view that would bring it back.  And yes, I know that I could go look on Flickr and find images, but they wouldn’t be mine.

And, with no electronic device in front of my face, conversation with the other guys was a little more natural, I think.

All that said, I went to fireworks last week, and took some photos I’m really happy with, and that captured the spirit and the moment of those fireworks.

So, is it better to go with or without camera to an event?  I think some events are better without; but I felt my clicker finger twitch involuntarily several times this evening, and I don’t think I’ll be able to resist on very many occasions.
