Travis Smith: my resume, bio and photos back to the main blog page

So, if you read the most recent entries on this blog, you’ll stumble across Something Awful, something that I think is truly shameful, and almost unforgivable.

They’re boring.

Yes, I know this.  You have been suffering reading them, and I want to tell you, you’re not alone.  I’m sure others have found them boring, too.  In fact, I have found myself bored writing them, and bored reading them later.  And then I get bored again when I go in and fix the dumb typos.

I mean, come on: “My Mac has been running for 9 days?” “Celebrity Sighting: Julianna Margulies”—does anyone really care?  “Video Servers, Web Cams, and Me”?  Wow, is that ever crap!

The reason, dear reader, is this: photographs.  Frankly, I’ve been taking too many photographs, and at 1,000 words per, I’m drained.

I’m only partially facetious here.  I have clearly noticed that, when I take a few photos of an event, my description of that event becomes framed by, and inclusive only of, the things I’ve photographed.

I’m going to keep taking pictures, and writing this blog.  But I promise you that I’ll tell more stories, funnier, better, wittier.  And it won’t even cost you six million dollars to rebuild me.

I’ll start now, with a little description of a hiking trip I went on last weekend.  I now present… The Six Men Who Went up a Mountain!

No, that still sounds boring.  OK, how about: “Uphill All the Way—The Story of Scout Camp 2005” There, that’s better.  Go make some popcorn, then click next…

Overheard

“The superior man contains the means in his own person. He bides his time and then acts. Why then should not everything go well? He acts and is free. Therefore all he has to do is to go forth, and he takes his quarry. This is how a man fares who acts after he has ready the means.”

...who said it?

“Greatness is only a matter of will.  It is the end result of patience, determination, direction and strength.”

...who said it?

“kindergarchy n. Rule or domination by children; the belief that children’s needs and preferences take precedence over those of their parents or other adults.”

...who said it?

“The Northeast Blackout affected 50 million people and zero PEER 1 customers. Find out why.”

...who said it?

“As in 2007, the average U.S. worker has 14 vacation days this year. Just across the Canadian border, our counterparts get an average of 17 vacation days annually. But if you want a real “vacation envy” complex, consider the vacation banks of European workers. France tops the list with an average of 37 days, followed by Italy (33 days), Spain (31), the Netherlands and Austria (28), Germany (27) and Great Britain (26). “

So, I made some popcorn, got all set to click next and . . . next . . . hmmm . . now, that would be found . . . hmm . . . where was that again . . . hmmm . . .now let's see, next would be right . . . . . .

(why does 'Notify me of follow-up comments?' have a question mark?)

Oh, well, I guess I'll just go ahead and post this comment. Now, where is that post button...let's see...maybe it's over...

OH, there it is. Or rather there it is under the new name submit, like the button I use to make a payment in my online banking. That would be it over there, two columns over from my preview column with my personal identifying information inbetween them. Got it.

It's so nice to see you posting to your blog again (or would that be submitting?...) and exploring the new site has been a pleasure.

PS you wouldn't consider using 'post' again, would you? -- It simply has certain echoes I like.

PPS If the preview section has print that fits to the column width, could the comment composing column do the same? If you want to know why I'm asking that, let me know. I'll share.

Do you have a talent for identitying your posters (postees?) by their style? We'll see.

Anxiously awaiting the next post. You were missed.

Yours truly,
Avid Reader
