Travis Smith: my resume, bio and photos back to the main blog page
Tracker Pixel for Entry

One of the key question people ask themselves, “What makes me happy?” now has a way to find an answer, and even comes with some cool charts.  Here are mine.

There’s a research study at www.trackyourhappiness.org that helps you answer that, based on a cool methodology.  They send you text messages or twitter direct messages, a few times a day.  Once you’ve answered 50 times, they give you some cool charts, and help you understand what actually makes you happy. The only catch is that you need to have a fancy Web phone, or be near a computer a lot.  I think that won’t be too hard for most of you reading this. smile

Here are some of my charts:

Happiness by Day

Wednesday really is hump day

Happiness by Location

I need to spend more time watching movies on my bike.

Happiness by Who I’m Talking To

Interestingly, I’m never more than 45% happy when talking to someone else.

Happiness by Amount of Sleep
and
Happiness by Sleep Quality

I’m just as happy on 6 hours of sleep as not, but I often get just 6 hours of sleep. What matters more is the quality of that sleep.

Happiness by Activity

Who knew I’d be made so happy by cleaning and organizing?

Happiness by Being Alone

I’m usually about 60% happy, and it doesn’t matter if I’m alone or not.

Anyway, if you find it interesting, give it a try.

Overheard

“Oh boy! Another great opportunity for personal growth!”

...who said it?

“I’m not bitter about what happened to me as a child, and my mother was instrumental in keeping me from being so. ... She taught me to be grateful for my life regardless of what that entailed, and that’s directly related to the image of Christ on the cross and the example of sacrifice that he gave us. What she taught me is that the deliverance God offers you from pain is not no pain—it’s that the pain is actually a gift. What’s the option? God doesn’t really give you another choice.”

...who said it?

After over a decade of user testing, it is clear that the way we search the web is similar to the way we would search our home for valuables as it was burning to the ground. Frantically.

...who said it?

“We must shift the focus of companies back to the customer and away from shareholder value ... The shift necessitates a fundamental change in our prevailing theory of the firm… The current theory holds that the singular goal of the corporation should be shareholder value maximization. Instead, companies should place customers at the center of the firm and focus on delighting them, while earning an acceptable return for shareholders.”

...who said it?

“We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.”

...who said it?

I will definitely try this out. I found your blog accidentally while looking for the other "unvarnished" (after seeing it reviewed on the Today Show). I'm glad I made the decision to stay and view your blog instead of looking at the other site.

I also found this site by accident, but it's interesting. Takes a little getting used to reading left to right instead of up and down, but cool, nonethe less. I'll keep reading!

I guess happiness can mean many things to many people. some think that money can help a little. Just the otehr day , having lunch with my colleagues. We did suddenly discussed this issue. Happiness can be the girl you dated love you so much. Funny how love can survive and is blind. Happiness could seems to be trust that someone gives you the confidence and maybe you too can be happy just been a King for a day, though it is not everlasting. My colleague mentioned that happiness is also been in a state of without having any woriies in life. they told me to do a research and perhaps wite a thesis about this interesting subject. I am think of it now
