So, I’m wearing a wrist band right at this very moment that entitles me to a Wii.
I lined up this morning at 5:20 on Broadway at the Toys ‘R’ Us (you’ll just have to imagine the ‘R’ is backwards). I was the 11th in line; the first person had started the line at 8 p.m. the previous day.
I have to say, that if these people who were in line with me are my “tribe” then we are going to get eaten by wolves if we don’t starve to death first. You’ve heard of Motley Crew, right? I like the 7th guy: he’d lined up for (and bought) a Wii on the first day it went on sale, and had “so much fun” that he “thought he’d try for another one.”
Um, yeah.
Anyway, I have to make fun of them because I’m sure somewhere someone is making fun of me for getting up about 7 hours earlier than I normally do on a Saturday, and for being such an inveterate geek. I have to say, I was amazed at how completely out of my competance league I was in that line. I’m a huge PC tech guy, but they were tossing game title nicknames and console mods and all these historical gamer facts around and I was really barely able to follow the conversation.
Being up for sunrise is always a novel experience for me. After getting the armband, I took advantage of consciousness and went to Granville Island and was the first customer at the bakery there. The smell of fresh bread was delightful.
I’m returning to the store, armband and all, at 9:30 a.m. to actually purchase the Wii. More updates as news happens, this is Travis Smith, reporting for Unvarnished.com.
“The superior man contains the means in his own person. He bides his time and then acts. Why then should not everything go well? He acts and is free. Therefore all he has to do is to go forth, and he takes his quarry. This is how a man fares who acts after he has ready the means.”
“kindergarchy n. Rule or domination by children; the belief that children’s needs and preferences take precedence over those of their parents or other adults.”
“As in 2007, the average U.S. worker has 14 vacation days this year. Just across the Canadian border, our counterparts get an average of 17 vacation days annually. But if you want a real “vacation envy” complex, consider the vacation banks of European workers. France tops the list with an average of 37 days, followed by Italy (33 days), Spain (31), the Netherlands and Austria (28), Germany (27) and Great Britain (26). “
It's early, so I forgive you, but the band's name is actually Mötley Crüe. Mind you, if you were just making a kind of pun on the band and actually just referencing the line, then that spelling's kosher.
Regardless, I must come over and play with your new Wii.
Make sure you warm up before playing Wii Sports. After kicking Heather's butt at boxing, tennis and bowling, my right arm was hella sore for at least three days :(

You can scroll right easily by holding down the SHIFT key and using your scroll wheel. (Firefox users trying this will end up jumping to old Web pages until a) Firefox releases a fix, b) they change their settings like so.)
