We’ve been designing websites for as long as the web has been around, but we’d never worked with an optometrist. We have now! We were pretty excited when Eye Carumba contacted us earlier this year. Located in San Francisco, Eye Carumba serves the fashion-forward San Francisco tech crowd from their retail location in Embarcadero Center, and of course from their website: eyecarumba.com.
Eye Carumba arrived with a flat file website that was working reasonably well, but with a design that needed to be refreshed. Eye Carumba staff also wanted to be able to update the website a bit more easily, so a content management system was in order.
We chose to set the site up with Craft CMS for its flexibility—every page on the Eye Carumba website is a little bit (or a lot) different. We also worked with Eye Carumba to rethink the way their online forms were presented, breaking the behemoth Patient Intake Form into several screens to make filling out the form more intuitive and easier on mobile.
The site got some fun pieces of interactivity, from visual cues like icons with a slight wiggle when you hover over them, softly colored circles with subtle movements that highlight key information, and the always-available toolbar with shortcuts to the most commonly accessed pages and information. [My personal favorite part is the Office Hours button that shows you whether Eye Carumba is open right now or not.—Ed.] Don’t miss the embedded Google Map for directions, and virtual tour of the office on the Contact page.
Frankly, all of the Hop Studios ducks are pretty disappointed that none of us live near Eye Carumba, because we call tell you these are some seriously fun and enthusiastic people. We had a blast working on the site, we only wish we could all start visiting Eye Carumba for our vision care! If you’re in San Francisco, we encourage you to keep an eye out for them (groan)!
