Vanderbilt Cup Races is a incredible online community and resource for information, photos and results of the Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island from 1904 to 1910, and the automotive history of Long Island.
In 2012, the website was honored with two Webby Awards for the Automotive and Sports categories. In 2013, VanderbiltCupRaces.com was selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences as one of the five best in the world for “cars sites & car culture”.

We love original content! And this site has it in spades!
We were pumped to upgrade the content management system, ExpressionEngine, bringing it from 2.7.3 to the 5.3. It is always an exciting adventure to make that big a jump, as ExpressionEngine has undergone some fundamental shifts since the days of 2.x. As usual, we also spend a fair amount of time bringing add-ons up to date and replacing those that have gone defunct.
At the same time we did the upgrade, we migrated the site to a new web hosting service, switched analytics tool (so long, Mint!), and reworked how commenting moderation works on the site.
There were several other small improvements and additions:
- Letting registered users edit their comments
- Setting up easier editing of the home page slideshow
- Creating a method to conditionally relate content across the site
- Customizing the appearance of Google Custom Search results
