In the face of COVID-19, we all found ourselves changing how we source essential goods and services. Hop Studios responded by creating YVR Local Delivery to highlight businesses delivering or offering services tailored to the stay-at-home period.

YVR Local Delivery featured businesses in Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Langley, Delta, North Vancouver, Maple Ridge, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Port Moody, Langley, White Rock, Pitt Meadows, Bowen Island, Anmore, Lions Bay, Tsawwassen, and Belcarra.

Services Provided

As stay-at-home pandemic orders were issued in early 2020, there was a sudden and massive increase in the need for delivery services and other alternatives to in-person commerce. Many businesses impacted by this crisis adapted their operations from storefront service to delivery service, take-out, curbside pickup, and/or virtual/video delivery, but short of checking in on each business there was no way to know what was still open and what was closed.

Inspired by the efforts of community activists at the Social Venture Institute who had begun collecting information in shared Google document, Hop’s president Travis Smith set aside time for our team to build a lean but fully featured online directory where businesses listed information about their services.

We built this website using the Craft CMS. Since we needed to get the site up quickly for it to be useful, we purchased the Listagram theme and adapted the look and functionality to our needs. It took us about a week to pull everything together (while prioritizing pandemic-related requests from our existing clients) and everyone at Hop Studios was involved. Chris Townsend managed the project and reviewed submissions; Michael Kant, Gilbert Lin, and Rowan Sentesy handled all CMS setup and code work; Susie Gardner did the logo and design customization; Tammy Meyers drafted our press release and edited listings; Travis Smith got the ball rolling and managed the site content and copyright issues.
